Chehni Kothi is believed to have been built in the 17th century. Legend has it that the local king, Raja Dhadhiya, constructed it as a fortified watchtower to protect the valley. The Kath-kuni style of architecture, using alternating layers of wood and stone, is characteristic of the region and makes for a visually striking structure.

The tower was originally seven stories tall. However, the devastating Kangra earthquake of 1905 damaged the upper levels, leaving it at its present height. Even with only five stories remaining, Chehni Kothi is considered the tallest traditional tower temple in the Western Himalayas.

Visitors cannot climb completely to the top of Chehni Kothi, but exploring the lower levels and surrounding area is still a captivating experience. Admire the intricate carvings and the robust construction that has withstood the test of time. Next to the main tower is a smaller structure now dedicated to the local deity Shringa Rishi.
